Thought I’d share a lil in what goes on when planning a 1st birthday party in our Korean culture. As lil sis has mentioned before, it definitely does feel like a mini wedding reception…with finding a venue, hiring a photographer/videographer, putting together a slide show, party favors, decorations, entertainment. And you do all of this while trying to stay within a budget!
The twins had their 1st bday party, aka dohl, at The Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. At that time, we had justified the costs because we were celebrating 2 of our children’s birthdays…plus, we were not planning on having more children
No regrets spending the money. I do lots and lots of research and price comparisons prior to making a decision. This helps me sleep at night.
Fast forward 6 years…we are now getting ready to celebrate baby #3′s dohl. Wait a sec…is my baby really turning 1 so soon?! sigh…where does the time go?
The venue has been set. It was a no-brainer for the hubs. Again his rationale…this will be our last dohl! haha!
The photographer. Generally speaking, there is usually a photo shoot prior to the event. You showcase these pictures at the dohl. So not only do you have to take into account the shooting cost of the party but also the cost of taking family portraits prior. I have spent the last 2 weeks narrowing down my choices and creating spreadsheets and I will have to let the money-maker, aka husband, make the final decision. Here are my favorites.

I’m hoping to have this decision made by the weekend and I can finally start focusing on the twin’s birthday party!
Have a great weekend!
